Xiamen has launched its first cruises-to-nowhere pilot, with Adora Cruises’ Adora Mediterranea departing the city’s international cruise centre on November 1, 2026, carrying nearly 2,500 passengers.

The three-day, two-night itinerary sails from Xiamen, spends its time at sea and returns to the same port without an overseas port call. China News Service reported that the inaugural voyage departed on the evening of November 1 and was scheduled to cover 328 nautical miles round trip.

The departure puts the Fujian port’s pilot into operation, rather than marking only a route announcement. It adds a short-break product centred on the ship itself to Xiamen’s cruise offering.

From policy announcement to first sailing

At a September 24, 2026, State Council Information Office briefing, Vice Minister of Transport Li Yang said cruises-to-nowhere services would expand to Xiamen, Shenzhen and Guangzhou after trials in Shanghai and Tianjin. The briefing transcript, republished by Beijing Daily, described the format as a short sea voyage without intermediate port calls, aimed particularly at younger travellers and families.

The November 1 sailing is therefore a local operational milestone within the wider pilot programme, not the launch of China’s first such cruise.

Terminal procedures adapted for the pilot

A November 2 report on the Fujian provincial government website said Xiamen Cruise Port Customs prepared voyage-specific supervision arrangements for the same-port departure and return. Passenger-flow measures included a single screening process combining baggage security checks with customs inspection, alongside digital information services.

For cruise operators and ports, the new format offers another way to sell a short holiday without building the itinerary around shore excursions. The confirmed departure establishes the start of Xiamen’s pilot; it does not by itself establish a permanent sailing frequency or the completed outcome of the inaugural round trip.
