Villa Vie Odyssey sailed from Sihanoukville, Cambodia, on 4 November 2026 without its residential passengers, a week after its operator suspended the voyage and began seeking a financial restructuring.

Reuters, in a report carried by CNA, said more than 200 passengers had disembarked. Many had paid substantial sums to make the ship their home for years. Some collected their remaining belongings on 3 November, while others had already arranged onward travel.

The departure follows Villa Vie Residences’ 27 October announcement that operations in Cambodia had been suspended. The company said higher fuel costs had made its operating model financially unsustainable, despite slowing its itinerary and spending longer in port.

According to the operator, monthly fuel spending on an equivalent per-cabin basis had risen from a historical average of about US$1,800 to an estimated US$6,000–8,000 in parts of Asia. It said passing the full increase to residents was not realistic.

Villa Vie said it was pursuing restructuring and recapitalisation over the following 60 days. Its announcement cautioned that no financing or transaction had been finalised and that a successful outcome was not assured.

Onshore assistance continued after the ship left. Cambodianess reported on 4 November, citing Tourism Ministry spokesperson Top Sopheak, that around 98 passengers remained in Cambodia. They were staying in several destinations, including Sihanoukville, Kampot, Kep, Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, with a coordination team available to help.

Singapore was identified as a possible onward destination in the Reuters report, but the ship’s final destination was not confirmed in that account. The departure itself did not signal a restart of the residential cruise programme.
